The ghost of a young man whose life was tragically cut short is curse to haunt birthplace when, finally, after 200 years, someone can see him... Unlike many of the other reviewers, I had not read any of the "MacKinnon" books, so this was all new to me and it was the perfect hook to interest me in the next book!
If you have read the first book, you can skip this short novella. It doesn't add anything new to the story, nor does it significantly flesh-out the romance between Margot and Ian. What would have improved this significantly is if it had been longer, more in depth, or added something important. It was fine, but it isn't something you *must* own.
This prequel is well written and the story will grab your attention from the very first page and keep you intrested until the very end. After reading this prequel I immediately downloaded The Deepest Cut, the 1st book in this series. I would recommend this book and the rest of this series to all readers who love fantasy/paranormal/romance.
Normally, I don't like to read prequels or novellas from a series because it doesn't seem to relate to the storyline. This book does not apply to that rule. It gives you just enough backstory and addresses every question you might have about the series. This series has the perfect combination of romance, mystery, and horror. Would definitely recommend as a must read for any fan of paranormal romance.

This is the beginning of the trilogy of the MacKinnon Curse books. I read this book after book one and trust me when I say that reading this book before the rest make you wonder a lot of things that will not make sense unless you read them all first and then the beginning (this book). I loved this book simply because not only is this book scary and weird but because it took me to a place far far away. Away from the city away from the normalcy around me and gave me something different. So if you want to experience something new and fresh and hauntingly scary read this book.
This short story takes you back in time, and gives you more details about the curse. It tells why Ian was cursed, why Laria did this to Ian and what Ian did while being a ghost. Ian spent many years wandering around his family home and establishments. He attempts to make contact with others, but doesn't have any luck. That is, until a girl named Riley moves into the area. He establishes a rapport with her and thus, The Mackinnon Curse Book one is started. Great short story, though I would have like to see more details regarding Ian's wanderings. Keep up the great work.
